Since it can be so hard to know where to go when you're on holiday, these are the places that we went to...
Bar 1978- In one of the back streets, near Plaza Mayor. Sorry, I didn't take the address down, and this place doesn't seem to exist on the internet. :S
- Good breakfast deals, as seen in the sign below!

Coffee/Herbal Tea + bread, olive oil and tomato + orange juice = 2 Euros!
Terra A NosaCalle Cava de San Miguel 3, 28005 Madrid
- Bar/restaurant with a good selection of tapas (snack size) and raciones (meal size). Get a few and share them around!
- It's right opposite the San Miguel market.
Calle Atocha 42. Madrid, 28012
- We got an evening (3-course) menu for about ten Euros. Nothing super-fancy, but good food that all three of us enjoyed.
- Service here was really good. Admittedly, we were about the only ones in the place, but the young guy was a hard case, and keen to try out the little English that he knew.
Latoneros, 10 Madrid, 28005
- We needed somewhere to have Christmas lunch, and managed to book a table here just the day before. Plus, it was only 16E50 (not including a drink).
- Cosy atmosphere, plus there's quite a bit of space to sit outside.

Our friend, Kingi the kiwi, enjoying some cava in El Madroño.
Calle de Leon, 3, Huertas, Madrid
- Christmas Eve, and almost everywhere seemed to be shut... except this place! Well done.
- A place to relax in... from what I can remember, it had a dark wooden interior, a slightly vintage look, and appeared to be equipped to host muzos from time to time.
- Had tasty raciones, tarts, and empanadas!
Atocha, 77, 28012, Madrid
- This was not too far down the road from our hostal, and we discovered it when wandering down to Retiro Park. Apparently, they're specialists in Argentinean delicacies!
- The window display was so enticing that we hopped in, and had quite a difficult time choosing between all the sweet treats!
- For the eating (among other things): emapnadas to take away, cakes, sweets...
All over the place!
- This place was recommended to me by a Spaniard, so I figure it has to be decent.
- It's called 100 mini-sandwiches (for lack of a better translation) because they actually have 100 different fillings! That means you can go 100 times without getting bored...
- With a 'buy a pint of beer for just a euro if you get a mini-sandwich too' deal every day, you can't go too wrong.

Just look out for this...
